Default New Motorcraft 10w30...outstanding minoil

Iron 1

Moly 42
Magnesium 18
Calcium 2077
Phos 921
Zinc 1285
Vi 11.11
TBN 6.50

Motorcraft has re-formulated its 10w30, and appears to be using the same outstanding Conoco technology that has made their 5w20 a believer out of me, where I was a skeptic. The new MC 10w30 is identified by the wording of "hydrocracked/synthetic" in the language on the back. Considering this oil can be bought at Wal-Mart for $15/case, it is an outstanidng deal, and a top choice for you frequent oil changers. The TBN actually is a bit higher, so this oil is a 4-5K change oil in the S2K, 3K easy.

How does this compare with the Castrol GTX Drive Hard (min) oil? From reading your oil comparison thread, it seems that for the mineral oils, the Castrol GTX seems to be the best choice, unless I misinterpreted the information.

How does this Motorcraft compare? I know that Motorcraft is mostly used in Ford's, so I never really considered it for the S2000... currently, I'm still searching for the best mineral oil to use (for some reason I just don't think its necessary to spend the extra money on synthetic oil, for a motor that is essentially stock).

My car is used for daily driving in addition to spirited weekend driving on backroads and the occasional auto-x.... I do drive the car alot though. I drive roughly 400 miles a week.

I have not changed the oil myself (for its 20k mile life, it has only seen Honda oil, which I hear is Mobil Drive Clean), but I intend to change oil myself, just because I know it will be done correctly. Plus I don't exactly trust the fact that Honda likes putting 0w20 and 5w20 oil in the car.

I read what I am sent, and have good recall. I also work hard to keep up with new developments.

jyeung: Sorry, man, for the brain drain But life moves pretty fast - things change.

You guys want me to retire?

Castrol GTX is OK - I think MC's product is better. The base stocks are similar to what Syntec uses. And just because it is marketed by Ford, do not cut yourself short and be biased against the product. Ford of course outsources development of their lubricants to major oil companies, including Conoco.

And I believe Foprd makes some fairly quick cars - can you say SVT Cobra and Ford GT?

Thanks for the info Glenn.

Mind replying to my post about Valvoline Maxlife also? I'm undecided whether to use MC plain, MC with Maxlife engine protector, or just the Valvoline Maxlife oil itself, so your response to my other post may clear some things up for me and aid in me making a more informed decision.

What about the 5W20 thing? Would you (RR) use 5W20 in an S2000? Do you think that MC 10W30 would be a better choice than Mobil 1 10W30?

I was browsing the Motorcraft website and saw that they also have a synthetic MTF and a friction modifer additve. Do you have any information on these? Also, there is more than one 10w30...even some synthetic blends...which one are you referring to?

Thanks for the great information.

RR's threads are all good reads... gets kinda confusing but glad you're here!

BTW I still have a case of Amsoil 10W-30 left... kinda off topic but how often do you recommend a change? They say like 12,500 miles for high performance cars but ehhh I dont think it'll last that long

yeah I also run amsoil 10w-30, but Im scared to leave it in that long. I have tried in the past to leave oil in for as long as the factory recommends.. and I just cant do it. I hate to see black paint draining out of a car or truck I paid so much for. my s2k's oil will get dark at about 2k, and at 3k it comes out.
