So who fancies a weekend of 200mph cars, a blast down some quite roads and the odd beer or two ?

We've been talking about the idea of travelling down to Le Mans for the race on the 12th and 13th June for a while - I think it started in the bar at SM3, and has continued from there

Some of the board regulars have been there before, some, including myself have not. As I understand it there's loads of different ways of sorting out the journey, camping, and watching the race, but to give an example there are 52 cars travelling down from the UK already, all from the PistonHeads site

Most of the people who have been before suggest getting there on Thursday afternoon, and settling in for the weekend, then returning on the Monday morning. (Driving on Sunday evening is usually very painful)

Also the tickets are

First dumb question from someone who can't be bothered to search for the answer ... When is it? (and in relation to SM5, MM1, etc)

Where do you want to travel from ? (Dover, Folkstone, Portsmouth, Poole) Poole
What type of campsite do you want ? (close to track, not the best facilities or 5-6miles from track with good facilities) Don't fancy camping

I would like to keep the trip down to 2 days off work - say Friday and Monday. So how about a late afternoon sailing on Thursday and a cheap hotel on the Froggy side for Thursday night, and a drive down to Le Mans early Friday morning (there is no track action on Friday, so we can pitch up mid morning and spend the rest of the day drinking little bottles of larger and putting tents up (no necessarily in that order!)

Dont really mind.....where is cheapest - I would rather pay

Me and H

Thur sounds good, go with the majority

Where do you want to travel from ? (Dover, Folkstone, Portsmouth, Poole)

Whatever cheapest deal, and best journey - presumably Dover-Calais the shortest crossing, so cheaper?

What type of campsite do you want ? (close to track, not the best facilities or 5-6miles from track with good facilities)

One with hot running water, full English breakfast facilities, clean lavs, showers, on-site bar, dancing girls - or am I being unrealistic?

Need to decide what I am going to do about SM5. Might go just for the end of SM5 and have a week in France ending with Le Mans.. If not, then I will prob skip SM5 and travel Thurday.

Where do you want to travel from ?
Anywhere but Poole Went from Dover last time I went to France, but not sure which is best for Le Mans. Actually, unless you get on a SeaCat, I would rather have an extra drive to Dover/Folkstone and a shorter crossing. IIRC its about 6 hours on a ferry from Portsmouth -> Cherbourg.

What type of campsite do you want ? (close to track, not the best facilities or 5-6miles from track with good facilities)
Better Facilities would be nice, but depends on how easy it is to get to the track for the weekend. I think maybe on track with the basics would be better.

Definately up for it! Willing to fit in with the majority I think! Think the camping is getting booked up fast though so we do need to move on this soon.
